February Art Blog
Project Status: on pause for Web Development!
What I’m Reading: Uzumaki
What I’m Watching: Kakegurui
Ah February, the month of love and affection. That wonderful time of year when I absorb all of the Valentine’s Day aesthetics and become overpowered. I’ve set it upon myself to make an entire website from scratch during this month, and so far, it has gone incredibly well! I’ve become so inspired by the indie web movement and I feel that it is the perfect home for my art. Just the thought of having a special place on the internet for my creations and for anyone who enjoys them is enough to fill me with the motivation needed to make it happen! Have I done any real coding before, outside of editing my Spacehey page? Not at all! Is that enough to stop me? Of course not! If anything, it makes me even more determined. There is an immense satisfaction that I feel whenever I do something impressive, that is more than enough to keep me going.
I want to get it to where all of my main landing pages are finished and have at least one or two of all the delights they will eventually have. There is the homepage, which has a little bit about the site, a little about me, and a place for updates. Then the art gallery, which will likely take the longest to be completely finished because I intend for it to lead to several different pages for different types/collections of art. The page for my comic will be more of a teaser probably because I don’t anticipate having much time to devote to the comic yet, so I’ll just need to make some cool cover art. My blog page is straightforward, as it’s essentially just a list of links to individual blog posts. Fun & Games I also think will take some time to finish, mostly because of the time going into making the games, but I’ve sort of been working on the content for those in the meantime. Lastly, there’s my shop and of course, I’ll want to make a thorough sitemap.
Once those landing pages are up and I can consider my website “live,” all of the hardest work will be done, and I can just focus on adding content! I’ll also feel comfortable sharing it with people and using it as my directory. A very exciting moment to come! As I write this, there’s about one week left in February. I’d say I’ll probably finish between 4-5 of the landing pages. After that, progress will be slower because I’m going to spend a lot of March directing my intensity towards housecleaning. But we’ll see! I think this website has become my new hobby lol
And I have to talk about how welcoming and cool the indie web community is. I feel like I’ve lifted up a rock and found a bunch of silly and interesting bugs crawling around underneath! One of my favorite pages on my site is honestly my collection of buttons from other indie sites I admire. I’ve found a whole new avenue for creative expression and so many other creative and like-minded people! In a time where social media is growing increasingly hostile to the artists it uses for fuel, and more and more users are realizing their disatisfaction, having a space on the internet focused on individuality and breaking away from the machine is so important! The internet belongs to people, not corporations. And I wouldn’t have been able to make my website without all of the people online who teach code for free, and encourage each other in their efforts. So I suppose that this February, my love belongs to the indie web!
